A message from outgoing President Frank Cowell

AMA San Diego 2022-23 President Frank Cowell

2022-23 President Frank Cowell

Dear AMA San Diego Community,

As we come to the end of June, and with it, the conclusion of my tenure as President of the American Marketing Association San Diego, I find myself reflecting on the remarkable journey we’ve embarked on over the past twelve months. It’s been a period filled with growth, innovation, and camaraderie.

This year, we amplified our commitment to fostering connections and facilitating education within our community. We re-launched our signature events, welcoming everyone back to in-person experiences after such a long hiatus. These gatherings not only provided valuable opportunities for networking but also served as platforms to share knowledge and insights in our ever-evolving field.

After a 3 year hiatus, in November 2022, we brought back our annual marketing conference, The Art of Marketing. This event saw a fantastic turnout of 280+ attendees and an extraordinary lineup of speakers, sponsors, and exhibitors. The success of this conference signifies the vibrancy and resilience of our marketing community. And, of course, the caliber of this event couldn’t have been possible without the support of our presenting sponsor the Knauss School of Business at USD.

Another major highlight of our year was the transformation of our annual awards program. The American Marketer of the Year Awards (AMYs) received a new lease on life, reborn as the Sandie Awards (Sandies). This reinvigoration garnered unprecedented enthusiasm, culminating in the most attended event in its history with over 200 attendees at our Gala in May. Witnessing the collective creativity and dedication of our community during this event was truly awe-inspiring.

None of these achievements would have been possible without the unwavering support of our exceptional board members. Their vision, dedication, and tireless efforts have been instrumental in navigating us through this transformative period.

To our tireless volunteers, your contributions, no matter how big or small, have had a ripple effect throughout our organization. You have infused each event with a spirit of enthusiasm.

To our sponsors, your generous support has been a crucial pillar to our ability to provide value to our community. Your involvement goes beyond monetary aid; it is a testament to your belief in the work we do and the community we are nurturing together.

As I transition out of my role and pass the torch, I am filled with gratitude. Serving this community of marketers in San Diego has been a privilege. I leave inspired by the tenacity, creativity, and passion that defines this association.

I look forward to watching our community continue to flourish in the coming year under the leadership of our incoming President, Claudia Chow.

Thank you for an unforgettable year!

With gratitude,
